VA
By Vikki Ashton

As experts in providing luxury resorts for families, we think we know a thing or two about where best to recommend for families to get the most from their stay. So we've listed five hotels below for your consideration, all of them are available to book with Just Resorts at fantastic industry rates.

Abama Tenerife

I was lucky enough to stay at this hotel a few years ago, and I was immediately struck by its commanding position on the south coast of the island, its salmon pink facade unmistakeable, and the hallowed emerald green turf of its golf course majestic. I had been to Tenerife before and this did not feel like Tenerife, it felt more like Mauritius. Edged by banana plantations and featuring a selection of pristine deluxe rooms and villas (most of them facing the sea) - the resort is visually beautiful and its provision for children is excellent, too. Character-led restaurants (including the Michelin starred MB's), a semi private beach accessed by a kooky funicular and a gorgeous spa with hydrotherapy circuit must be explored - whilst smaller guests will love 'Club Abami' - which sets impressive new standards for childcare provision in the Canaries.

Another key player in the region, Sheraton have created a resort here that's every bit as appealing to families as it is for couples. Unlike at Abama, the children's club and separate pool here is free for those aged 4-12 which will be of particular note to many families. Parents are fabulously catered for too with a choice of four authentic restaurants, 4 outdoor pools and the Hesperides Thalasso Spa. A high volume of interconnecting rooms means parents can enjoy some privacy whilst older children will certainly appreciate their own space too. Located right on the beach - prices at the Sheraton Fuerteventura are slightly cheaper than at Abama, but both hotels are outstanding in their own right.

With its sensational beaches and challenging Abama as Tenerife's premier resort - Bahia del Duque has made waves in the luxury market since its full refurbishment in 2009, which went hand in hand with the opening of 40 new exclusive villas and the outlandish Spa Thalasso. Facilities for children are endless - with the Duqui Club for those aged 3-12 and a Teen Lounge for the older ones featuring play station, table football, a Wi-Fi zone and TV with large video library. Extensive baby products are also available for those travelling with tots. Adults need not feel neglected, there's extensive sports facilities, 5 pools - and for a perfect night out (utilising an on-site babysitter) the adults only Terrazzo Moet bar and Las Augus - the adults only restaurant.

Hopping across to Gran Canaria, the Melia Tamarindos, crowned by its sub-tropical gardens is something of a gem, with its dark sand beach and great facilities for adults and children alike… hence it makes this list! A hotel run kids club is available for those aged 5-12 and a separate children's playground beckons the younger ones in. Regular entertainment is catered towards the whole family whilst adults have the solace of a spa and wellness centre for some 'me time'. Additional facilities include two buffet restaurants, tennis and squash courts, three bars and a fully equipped gymnasium and sauna. The hotel features a great buzz around the main holiday seasons and as such it comes recommended to those looking for a lively, family orientated luxury holiday experience.

Boasting lovely views over Costa Adeje and the neighbouring island of La Gomera, these luxurious two bedroom self-catering villas here offer a great option for 2 adults and 2 children. Surrounded by manicured landscaped gardens and integrated with the Costa Adeje golf course, Hotel Suite Villa Maria offers exceptional value for money with rates based on bed and breakfast. Families will find an attractive, centrally located resort with particularly pretty pool area - with accommodations arranged around a central plaza area. A children's club runs for those aged 3-8 and young ones can also enjoy on-site mini golf as well as a twice daily courtesy bus to the beach. A separate adults and children's pool join a pool and cocktail bar as highlights, whilst those on half or full board will enjoy a la carte evening meals at La Torre.
