A Memorable Stay at Pine Cliffs, A Luxury Collection Resort on the Algarve
By Deborah Powell
Having visited the Algarve on many occasions over the years, I thought I had a pretty good sense of what to expect from this beautiful region of Portugal. However, nothing quite prepared me for the luxury and tranquility of staying at this award-winning family resort, just 30 minutes away from Faro International Airport.
First Impressions: A Warm Welcome
From the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping into a different world. The cobbled entranceway, lined with lush greenery, bougainvillea and bird of paradise, led us to the heart of the resort. We checked in at the Pine Cliffs Hotel, our luggage was whisked away and dropped off at our 3 bedroomed residence, and we began our tour of this Luxury Collection Resort with prime seafront location. This set the tone for our stay, leaving us with a feeling of anticipation of what Pine Cliffs had to offer.
The Perfect Balance of Family-Friendly Luxury
This private retreat boasts an intimate, luxurious atmosphere that repeat guests have become accustomed to year after year. The blend of traditional Algarve charm with modern luxury is nothing short of exceptional. One of the first things I noticed were the hand-painted Algarve tiles, featured throughout the resort and used in some of the interiors – a beautiful nod to the region’s rich history. These tiles, along with other local touches, were a consistent feature in the resort’s design giving it a true sense of place without being over the top. It was understated elegance at its best. The stunning red sandstone cliffs are an impressive sight and the pine trees with their lush green canopies provide the perfect backdrop for a peaceful retreat.
Pine Cliffs seamlessly manages to strike the perfect balance between luxury and family-friendly accommodations. The kids can have so much fun in the resort’s ‘children’s village’—the Pirate Ship is a big hit with the kids, along with mini-golf, water games, and face painting not to mention various sporting academies on offer. There is a dedicated babysitting service which allows you to enjoy a quiet dinner or unwind by the one of the pools or even indulge in a treatment at the tranquil Serenity Spa knowing your little ones are in safe hands.
For the Active Traveller: A Sports Paradise
The resort isn’t just a place to relax, though. It’s a paradise for anyone who loves sports. Whether you’re into tennis, padel, pickleball, football, the gym or golf, there’s something for everyone. The resort boasts four floodlit tennis courts, four padel courts, and even a dedicated pickleball court—perfect for some friendly competition. Football enthusiasts will appreciate the Pine Cliffs Resort Football Center, a professional-grade facility that attracts world-class teams for training camps. The 9-hole golf course, with its immaculate greens and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean is perfect for beginners or advanced players. The vistas from the cliffs are nothing short of spectacular.
With Relaxation in mind: The Serenity Spa
We visited the Award-winning Serenity Spa where you can immerse yourself in a world of relaxation and rejuvenation with many indulgent spa treatments tailored to your own unique requirements. A place of calm for mind, body and soul.
Experience the Art of Well Being in the Thermal Oasis or consider one of the Well Being Programs: Yoga Break for 3, 5 or 7 days , Pilates Break, Bootcamp and more.
A Culinary Journey: Dining with a View
We dined at the Portofino Restaurant in Lemon Square and had an unforgettable Italian meal, so fresh and rich in flavour, I can most definitely recommend. Considering we travelled in November, the restaurant was full. Serving traditional Mediterranean food, it did not disappoint.
On our last day we ventured down to the beach, enjoyed the winter sunshine and reflected on our time in this gorgeous part of the world.
The Mare Beach Restaurant is simply the best. The perfect beachfront location offering the ‘Catch of the day’ and many delicious fresh food options for lunch. You could easily while away the hours, relaxing with a nice glass of wine and watching the world go by on this stunning Algarve coastline!
There are many dining options available on resort, all excellent and family friendly. We just didn’t have the time to sample them all!
Champagne Sunset at The Mirador Champagne Bar
One of the highlights of our trip was seeing the Sunset at the Mirador Champagne Bar. Breathtaking views from the terrace and on the edge of the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean made this the perfect spot to enjoy champagne as the sun goes down. There were moments of ‘quiet’ that felt so surreal, where people just sat back and admired the sight in front of them. Pure bliss….
A memorable stay
I didn’t want to leave. I have fallen in love with the Algarve all over again.
